Hints and Tips

Always keep up-to-date

Set a regular update schedule for windows, anti-virus, security centres etc.

Keep it clean

Make sure you run anti-virus and other security features on a regular basis, at least once a month. If possible use real time protection to ensure your always safe.

Don’t lose it

Take regular backups of information you do not want to lose. Create backups onto CD, DVD or a portable hard-drive. Backup storage devices are just a few pounds, losing family photos, videos or a month’s work is priceless.

Find it when you need it

Keep all of your CDs and instruction booklets in one place for easy access. Label them clearly and make sure you have any license keys.

Keep monitors clean with anti-static cleaning agents (or a well rinsed damp cloth)

My keys are not working…

Keep keyboards free from crumbs and dirt. You can unplug your keyboard and give it a light shake upside down which will remove most loose objects. Also canned air is cheap and good for clearing dirt and dust.

Cool and dry

Keep CD and other storage data out of direct sunlight and in a dry place, this will dramatically increase it’s life.

Save it

Save your work regularly, the majority of programs have an auto-save feature within their options.

Don’t believe the hype

If you PC is running slowly do not believe all adverts that will ‘speed up your pc’ the majority of them will actually make it run slower. Clear up any unwanted programs, run a disk cleanup and finally degrag your hard-drive. You should aim for about 10 – 20% of your hard-drives space to be free
